I handle production orders for a commercial print shop. Nine years into this work, I have made enough expensive mistakes that I now keep our shop checklist updated. The mistake that changed how I view modern presses happened in September 2022.

We had a 4,500-piece spot-color job scheduled. I approved the proof. It looked fine on my screen. But the proofing profile did not match the coated stock we were printing on, so the brand blue came out slightly purple. Every sheet went to waste. Now I ask about part numbers, lead times, and local support before I care much about marketing demo numbers.
