KHS-AI Advance: The Komori Hyper System, Architected for Closed-Loop Print

KHS-AI is the engineering line that runs through every current-generation Komori press. It integrates make-ready sequencing, ink-key preset, inline Delta-E measurement, parallel drum transfer control and LED-UV curing into a closed-loop system designed to pull saleable sheets faster and hold them stable across the production run.

System Architecture

Four Subsystems, One Closed Loop

01

Make-Ready Sequencer

KHS-AI auto-sequences plate change, blanket wash, ink-fountain preset and registration hunt based on the incoming job's prepress metadata. The operator confirms, does not drive.

Input
JDF / PDF/VT job payload, substrate profile, color target
Output
Sequenced make-ready plan, ink-key preset, registration baseline
Operator role
Confirm & release; exception handling only
02

Inline Color Measurement

Delta-E scanning at the delivery side feeds the closed-loop ink-key controller. Target color stabilizes under 200 sheets on reference G7 commissioning runs.

Measurement
Inline spectral scan, sheet-by-sheet
Target
Delta-E < 2 on reference, per job color bar
Loop
Scan → compare → adjust ink keys → rescan
03

Parallel Drum Transfer

Multi-drum parallel transfer maintains flat-sheet geometry on heavy board substrates up to 0.8 mm, critical for folding-carton converters and premium packaging work.

Substrate range
0.04 – 0.8 mm
Registration
Designed for signature-to-signature ± 0.05 mm
Geometry
Multi-drum, no single-drum reversal on board stocks
04

LED-UV Curing

LED-UV instant cure at the delivery enables immediate downstream finishing, reduces energy envelope versus conventional IR / hot-air curing, and compatible with wide substrate range.

Wavelength
UV-A LED array
Cure timing
Instant at delivery — no IR drying tower needed
Finishing
Immediate downstream coating, die-cut, foil
Process Flow

From Prepress Payload to Saleable Sheet

The KHS-AI Advance make-ready sequence, represented as the five engineering steps the press actually performs.

  1. Step 1

    Job Ingestion

Prepress pushes JDF / PDF/VT payload into KP-Connect. Job type, substrate profile and color target are parsed into the press's make-ready plan.

  2. Step 2

    Auto Make-Ready

Plate change, blanket wash, ink-fountain preset, substrate calipers and registration hunt execute in parallel where mechanically feasible. Operator is on confirmation duty, not driving duty.

  3. Step 3

    Color Lock

Inline Delta-E scan at delivery drives closed-loop ink-key adjustment. Target stability reached in under 200 sheets on reference commissioning runs.

  4. Step 4

    Run

Saleable production holds color target across the run. KP-Connect telemetry streams to the plant manager's dashboard — OEE in the open, not buried in an MES log.

  5. Step 5

    Post-Run Report

Run summary pushed back to KP-Connect: sheet count, make-ready waste, Delta-E envelope, LED-UV lamp hours, exceptions. Feeds the next shift's planning and the preventive-maintenance calendar.
