What 'Komori Compatible' Actually Means: An Admin Buyer's Candid Perspective

If you're sourcing Komori printing press parts, here's the bottom line: 'compatible' doesn't mean identical, and the cheapest option can cost you more in downtime than you save on the part itself. Parts Where Aftermarket Is Fine

  • Covers, guards, and brackets – no functional impact on print quality or press operation.
  • Fasteners, hardware, and non-critical wear items – as long as dimensions match, these are commodity items.
  • Cleaning supplies and solvents – just check compatibility with your specific press coatings and rollers.

The KHS Hyper System Caveat

If you're running a press with KHS Hyper System (Komori's automated color management and job changeover system), be extra careful. The system's sensors, control boards, and feedback mechanisms are tightly integrated. Aftermarket replacements that work fine on older Komori presses might cause communication errors or calibration failures on KHS-equipped models. I've only worked with KHS systems on Lithrone G40 models—I can't speak to how this applies to older GX or GLX series.

How I Evaluate Suppliers Now

After the gripper pad fiasco, I changed my process:

First, I ask suppliers outright: 'Which parts do you manufacture vs. source? Do you test on KHS-equipped presses specifically?'   • 20% (non-critical, clearly commodity items) can be generic aftermarket
